  1. Just wondering what you thought of receiving a leaflet in this months BB asking you to join the Hawk & Owl Trust? Particularly as it has a quote and picture on the back page from Chris Packham, who resigned in February over the Trust’s involvement in hen harrier brood management plans,

  2. Sad really that Chatsworth family who are great with workers, tenants and provide a very cheap golf club for workers and I think those with estate connections seem to support really strongly, shooting with associated problems.
The family seem very well respected and loved by local community.

  3. Not really sure why you are picking on the Chatsworth Estate here, they have by far the best record with raptors of any of the Derbyshire Estates. When Buzzards first returned to the Peak District in the early 90s the Chatsworth Estate provided a relatively safe haven from which surrounding areas were later occupied. Ravens bred for many years in front of the house undisturbed. I assume you have chosen Chatsworth to make a point because of its high profile, but that weakens your argument when there are so many more valid targets to go after in Derbyshire which are getting less attention. I do think that you are doing a good job putting the shooting industry under pressure, but I hope that you choose your next PR photo opportunity a little more carefully.
Regardless of this minor gripe, keep up the good work.
    Mick Lacey.

  4. A lot of those individuals involved with last years Hen Harrier day held Dunsop Bridge, myself included, are asking why on earth hasn’t Henry made a visit to the home of the Hen Harrier in the Forest of Bowland so far! After all this is where the RSPB are doing so much to promote the Harrier on estates owned by United Utilities. Are we choosing to forget it was in the Forest of Bowland where Sky and Hope the two tagged harriers were presumed shot? Henry need to see this important Harrier habitat and stand shoulder to shoulder alongside Bowland’s AONB Hen Harrier logo which continues to conveys a powerfully important symbolic message.

    1. Terry – I’m sure Henry has Bowland on his itinerary. As well as quite a few other places. Be patient. Henry has a day job you know!

  5. Thanks Mark, we are all looking forward to seeing Henty when he turns up. Will he be tagged and in disguise, we certainly don’t want to lose him after all his effort. We will try our best to make sure no one takes a pot shot.
