The general election

Have you noticed? There’s a general election coming?

Have you noticed? I’ve added some general election pages to this website? Over the next month these pages will be populated with more and more comment and analysis on what the political parties say about wildlife, nature conservation etc

If you have suggestions for reasons why we should or shouldn’t like the parties’ policies on the natural world then let me know and, if I agree, I’ll add them to the lists. Or, how about writing a blog about why you will, or won’t, vote for a particular political party’s policies on the natural world? That way I can publish your views whether I agree with them or not.

I may struggle to do a great job on the smaller parties and help and suggestions for them would be particularly welcome.

These pages might be particularly useful to wildlife NGOs who cannot take a party political line but may have strong views on the merits of the party manifestos.  Brief me, and your views can appear here.

  1. I was sent a letter from Stephen Williams, Bristol lib-dem MP, concerned by threat from Green Party candidate, stating his pride in this ‘greenest government ever’. I feel like ‘doing a Clarkson’. He’s either gulible or deceitful.

  2. Miked, you might have seen my earlier comment about the storm in a teacup with 38 Degrees over a claim by Stephen Williams that he helped defeat the Government’s forest sell-off plans. 38 Degrees have apologised for calling him a liar and for suggesting he had distributed leaflets – when it was Lib/Dem activists who had done so (do you hear hairs splitting ?) but his voting record was consistent – with the Government. Again splitting hairs, there was of course never a ‘Government’ vote on the issue as opposed to Opposition day votes, because famously David Cameron U turned.

  3. Bristol West being one of the few seats where the Green party is making a credible challenge, I think I’d be inclined, were I registered there, to show my appreciation of this greenest government by placing my X firmly in the Green party candidate’s box….
