Tim Melling – Great Black Hawk

This is an adult Great Black Hawk (Buteogallus urubitinga) the split second before snatching a fish from the water.  Its bizarre scientific name urubitinga is a native Brazilian (Tupi) word for this bird.  It is found in wooded and watery habitats throughout Central and South America.

  1. So what sort of numbwit disliked this picture? An anti predator tosser or what? it is a great picture whether or not you like the subject, which I do.

  2. Thanks Paul. My kids made a similar comment a few weeks back and said how out of kilter it was with the rest of the internet (some parallels there?). It amuses me.
