If only it were that easy…

The RSPB video of a man collecting Hen Harrier feathers, some apparently still attached to the bird, has now been viewed more than 15,000 times.

If you get to it via the RSPB website and are all fired up about wildlife crime then the RSPB offers a suggestion for how you can help.

  1. Well that is abject. The RSPB may not wish to unleash a rabble of pitchfork wielding peasants but they could try a little harder to stir up some anger amongst the members and then to channel it to some useful purpose. Putting a hedgehog shelter in the garden is really not going to stop the persecution of raptors by game managers and their henchmen.

    1. Jonathon,it really takes some understanding. It appears to me that they have some great guys on the investigating and fighting illegal bird crime and how frustrating for them that putting themselves in very difficult position and RSPB spending considerable sums on that side of it the RSPB then give no backing whatsoever in their magazine or in anything they release that might help.
      Unbelievable.

  2. Many gardeners are still using neonicotinoids in ‘pest’ sprays, even if they don’t realise the harm. There is a likelyhood that the greenfinch population is still being harmed by garden feeding/water contributing to the persistence of trichomonosis. No doubt there are other problems yet to be discovered. There is a huge amount of education needed before gardens can be a real asset to wildlife.
