  1. And there is much to think about other than persecution:- drainage turning peat moors from carbon sinks to CO2 producers. Drainage adding to drinking water colouring and downstream flooding, these moors should act as sponges. biodiversity damage, most predators are absent! Public funding clearly not delivering, may be even subsidizing persecution. A hundred years + of burning damaging plant biodiversity. Widespread removal of mountain hares in Scotland. Laws that when a keeper is taken to court under wildlife legislation only he and not those who instructed him are in the dock. Failure of senior managers at NE to grasp most of these nettles and burning plans on SSSI’s. Failure to meet SPA targets and not doing anything about it. Are profits or at least income from grouse moors, especially after successful prosecution proceeds of crime?
    They are just the ones that come immediately to mind.
