Westminster Hall debate on lead ammunition

There will be a Westminster Hall debate on lead ammunition next Tuesday on 8 December from 1630-1730. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

It might be a good idea to contact your MP ahead of this debate and tell her or him what you think about the issue.

These debates are fairly low-key affairs, usually only attended by a very few MPs, but they are very useful in airing and raising issues.

My prediction is that there will be a higher than normal turn out of Conservative MPs, whipped by the Countryside Alliance, who will be unconvinced by the arguments for change. But, if so, they will have to put their views on the record and be open to their constituents about what they have said.

It’s a clever move by whoever caused this to happen.  Thank you to Labour MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, Gerald Jones, for getting the debate – interestingly, Rob Sheldon’s e-petition to ban toxic lead ammunition has only four signatures in Mr Jones’s constituency.

I wonder how many former staff and trustees of the Countryside Alliance and GWCT will be present?

  1. We emailed our MP Victoria Atkins on this issue last Friday but have not had a reply.
    She is Conservative.
