Oscar Dewhurst – Barn Owl

Oscar writes: the Eels Foot Inn is the pub in Eastbridge, about a mile from Minsmere. Other than its perfect location, another great thing about it is that the field behind it is frequented by hunting Barn Owls! Every evening at about 7pm this bird would hunt over the field, seemingly unconcerned by the group of people watching.

Mark writes: ah! The Eels Foot Inn (as mentioned on p12 of Fighting for Birds). I like the pub and I used to walk there from Minsmere with Les Street in February and March 1976 when I was a voluntary warden at Minsmere (and not yet 18). Cockles in the pub with a pint and a game of darts.

There were Barn Owls there then and I have seen them there many times since – maybe even this one.
