Just a dead Greenfinch

gf1

Found in the garden.

It’s just a dead Greenfinch – but then again I haven’t seen many dead Greenfinches in my life.  In fact, you don’t see that many dead birds do you?  Certainly not considering how many live birds there are – and they all die sometime.

I suppose it’s the same with people.

I wonder what was this Greenfinch’s cause of death.  Was it, perhaps,  trichomonosis?

I seem to remember being told that Greenfinches are a species where the males are brighter than the females in colouration AND older birds are more brightly coloured than young ones.  Which means that an old female can be more brightly coloured than a young male, I guess.  Is that right? Or have I misremembered or was I misinformed?

  1. Very sad sight. I think you will find that male-ness trumps old-ness in the colour stakes.

  2. How sad to see that little bird. Fortunately for me, there was a live greenfinch on my birdtable this morning.
