Closer and closer to the Goyt Valley

Weds 5 Aug Copy

Henry has been flying around now for months and months. He started his journey around the country after the BAWC conference in Buxton in late March and is now, here, almost back to where he started. He’s looking forward to meeting people at Hen Harrier Eve on Saturday evening (ticket sales have closed) and then many more people in the Goyt Valley on Sunday morning for the Hen Harrier Day rally there with Chris Packham, the RSPB, the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and hundreds of you. In fine weather?

Henry wishes he could be in several places at once, as there are Hen Harrier Day events happening up and down the length of England and Scotland – a big increase on last year.  Come along to one and make your voice heard.

Hen Harrier Day Central, Goyt Valley, Derbyshire

Hen Harrier Day South, RSPB Arne nature reserve, Dorset

Hen Harrier Day Tayside, Loch Turret reservoir nr Crieff

Hen Harrier Day NorthWest, Dunsop Bridge, Lancashire

Hen Harrier Day NorthEast, RSPB Saltholme, Stockton on Tees

Hen Harrier Day Abbeystead, Lancashire

…and last, but not least, but maybe the most difficult to get to (unless you live on Mull)…

Hen Harrier Day Mull.

Well done to all who have stepped forward and organised one of these events – I know just how much fun it can be having done so last year!  Details of all events on the BAWC website.  Details of weather forecasts elsewhere!

Last year there were four Hen Harrier Day events – three in the north of England and one in the south. This year we have moved on to seven events; four in the north of England, one in the south and two in Scotland. That’s real progress.

If you can’t make it to one of the events then you can still join the Hen Harrier Day thunderclap which will send out over 5 million messages to the public, to the media, to decision-makers, to politicians, to the world, that ‘We are missing our hen harriers – we want them back!‘.

And it’s just possible that the e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting will reach 10,000 signatures this evening.
