Icelandic whaling – three short updates

I haven’t fogotten about Icelandic whaling. Here are three short updates:

  • discussions are progressing about how best to deliver the Bird Fair petition to Iceland in the most sensitive yet effective way.  I expect there to be some news next week on this.
  • our petition has gained 30 signatures as Mark Carwardine rescued a petition sheet from the Green Room at the back of the Events Marquee and put it in the post (thanks Mark) and I found some more on the back of a sheet that I had overlooked!  So the total is 1350 signatures.
  • last week another suspected hybrid Blue/Fin Whale was killed and another pregnant female Fin Whale – see here for some gory images, details of what is going on and some comments.

  1. Thanks for the update, Mark. I signed the petition at the Birdfair. Best of luck with it!

  2. Isn’t it telling that the killers of the pregnant whales deliberately stand together on the quayside so as to shield the body of the foetus from observers? Clearly, they understand that what they are doing is shameful and wrong. To hunt like this, we must kill not only the whales, but a part of ourselves.
