Saturday’s Walk for Wildlife

I’m fairly sure we won’t see Michael Gove on Saturday. The timing of a Walk for Wildlife isn’t great for the Secretary of State for Badger Culling.

The Wildlife Trusts estimate that we might see nearly 41,000 Badgers killed in 2018 now that the cull has been extended to 11 new areas.

The England and Wales Badger population has been estimated to be around 485,000 individuals.

Wow! So that would be a bit like wiping out everyone who lived in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and parts of Edinburgh in percentage terms.

  1. Hi Mark.
Showing solidarity on my tod this year on Saturday. Daughter “Can’t do London. It’s just too busy. Drives me completely mad. Sorry” So I’m memorising the whole London underground map, taking breadcrumbs and beach ball sized ball of string to find my way back to King’s Cross.
However my dillema is more that I’m torn over my placard content. I was going for badger. Then fox. Then trees and rivers, then birds of prey … now back to a badger,
gnarling the face off Gove but decided no, not ideal for the kiddies on the walk. Maybe Gove in a cage, begging for water. Again, too graphic … perhaps.
I think the problem I have is that I’m angry.
“Too angry with Gove to do a funny or cute placard”
Maybe I should just write that.
    Hope to see you there.

  2. Still some seats free on my coach from Matlock/Derby to Hyde park…..
Details by searching for the ‘derby peregrines’ blog.
    Nick
ps Agree Jan…not at all sure what to say on a placard that’s peaceful and child friendly….

Showing solidarity and going on my tod this year on Saturday. Daughter “Can’t do London. It’s just too busy. Drives me completely mad. Hate it. Sorry” So I’m memorising the whole London underground map, taking breadcrumbs and a beach ball sized ball of string to eventually find my way back to King’s Cross.
However my dillema is more that I’m torn over my placard content. I was going for badger. Then fox. Then trees and rivers, then birds of prey … now back to a badger, gnarling the face off Gove. But decided no, not ideal for the kiddies on the walk really. Maybe, Gove in a cage ? Begging for water and forgiveness… Again, too graphic … perhaps.

Maybe I should put that on it.
    Hope to see you there.
