NEWS: Government caves in on ancient woodlands

Ancient woodlands safe until Oakervee Review completed – see here.

HS2 Ltd is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Transport.

We have assessed 11 ancient woodlands, parts of which were due to be affected by preparations to build Britain’s new high speed railway this autumn, during the period of the Oakervee review. Work will now be deferred to Autumn or Winter 2020 on 5 of these sites, and to early 2020 on 6 of the sites. We will also take measures to protect wildlife to ensure they are not affected when work begins in early 2020.

  1. yes, great news. The bottom line though, with so few nature-rich areas left in Britain, should be that not one of them should be destroyed with any excuse at all, ever. Quite the opposite – big, better & more joined up. Our society still doesn’t seem to have got it into ‘its’ head that ‘man does not live by money alone’, or ‘you can’t eat money’. In fact, it doesn’t even sustain you psychologically (unless you’re already very sick in the head).
