New Shadow Secretary of State for Environment – Luke Pollard

Labour has, this week, and four weeks after Sue Hayman lost her seat as Workington woman, appointed Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, as the Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Mr Pollard is the seventh Shadow SoS since the 2010 general election and, without wanting to be unkind in any way, may well be a temporary appointment until a new Labour leader emerges in early April.

Let us hope that Mr Pollard takes his opportunity to promote environmental messagesfor at least the next three months. Good luck to him.

  1. Luke Pollard is a good choice. My daughter stood as the Green candidate for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport in the 2015 General Election which he also contested. She said he was very strong on the environment and a thoroughly decent human being. I was impressed by his contribution to the Westminster Hall Debate in response to the rewilding petition.
