Flying a kite in east North Northants

I live in east Northamptonshire at the moment, in a District Council area called East Northants which is the eastern end of Northamptonshire and is one of seven district councils; East Northants, Northampton, Wellingborough, Corby, Kettering, Daventry and South Northants. But soon Northamptonshire is being split into two new local council areas: West Northants and North Northants and I’ll be in North Northants.

So I’ll be in the eastern bit of North Northants in Northamptonshire.

The best bit of this is that we get a logo for North Northants and the three options are these:

The bottom one is nondescript and ugly all at once but the other two have Red Kites in them. Hooray!

I’d be happy with either of the top two. I prefer the top one, not because it only has the Red Kite in it but because it is simply cleaner and clearer. I’m not very impressed by the depiction of the River Nene in the middle logo – it looks more like the Pacific breakers crashing into the coast than our placid River Nene. And now it has been pointed out to me, I’ll never be able to look at the building on the hill without thinking it is a massive pair of binoculars.

No, it’s the top one for me!

I suggested Bath or North East Somerset but it didn’t find favour, for reasons that they wouldn’t disclose.

I quite like NoNoCo – it trips off the tongue – and the emblem should be the magnificent Purple Cock of Towcester. But I’m neither resident nor real, so …
