Farming today interview

Depending on when you read this, I may be just about to be on Radio 4 Farming Today talking about the Wild Justice legal challenge of gamebird releases (if before 0545-0555) or you were sleeping happily through it. I’ll put the link in here later.

Here is the link (last 5 minutes of programme).

I said:

  • best practice release densities not observed often enough
  • 60 million released non-native gamebirds an assault on native wildlife
  • Wild Justice is confident that thanks to our legal challenge DEFRA will have to act on this issue

DEFRA quoted as saying: statement imminent

  1. Listened to the recording. Well done Mark. You certainly got the message across in the very short time that was allowed and with an interviewer that was fairly mediocre.
I never cease to be amazed at the rubbish that the shooters continue to spout out. Probably 80 to 90% of what the guy from the GWCT said was totally wrong in my experience. One just has to look at the evidence such as the rapid decline in the numbers of lizards and adders here in the Chilterns and a similar decline in ground nesting native birds. These declines have coincided with these much bigger releases of pheasants. Good luck next week in court. I would love to see Defra “nailed”as they are allies and supporters of the shooters.

  2. Just seen the Wild Justice release. Brilliant news! Well done you three and your team.
Clearly this will also impact Scotland in due course.
    Great news, well done, again.
