Photo: The Whaling Station, Hvalfjörður It’s a beautiful setting for some less than beautiful deeds. Hvalfjörður means Whale Fjord and the group of white buildings at the foot of the pier into the fjord are where Iceland’s catch of Fin Whales are flensed and butchered under the eyes of a Japanese inspector – for all…

Who will be walking beside you on 22 September?
Who might you see in Hyde Park on 22 September taking a Walk for Wildlife? Prominent politicians? TV personalities? Staff of your favourite wildlife NGO? Your friends? I’m looking forward to seeing you.
Free food but no drink
On Saturday a few minutes in my favourite blackberrying patch provided an easy couple of ice cream containers of free food. Thee are plenty left and I must get out again before the weekend to harvest some more. The plan was to have a celebratory pub lunch afterwards, but the local pub, I found, is…

22 September
Three things you can do: 1. Please come to Hyde Park on Saturday 22 September and walk for wildlife. 2. If you can’t come, then show your support on this virtual wall (an idea suggested by a reader of this blog). 3. Chip in to help fund the costs of this event.
Celebrating Peter Melchett
This website, Celebrating Peter, has been set up so that people can share their memories of the late Peter Melchett. There are already some poignant and touching tributes to him there.
Hearing date confirmed
Our case (and RSPB’s too) against the decision of Natural England to license brood meddling of Hen Harriers will be heard in the Royal Court of Justice on 5-6 December 2018. You can come and watch! See you there.
Meet me, don’t eat me
I met some Minke Whales in Iceland yesterday. Some were swimming around off Reykjavik being watched by boatloads of happy whale-watchers (above) but others were for sale in a local supermarket.
Where am I?
I’m in Iceland.
