Oscar Dewhurst – Mandarin Duck

Mandarin

Oscar writes: One early morning in March a couple of years ago I was at Hyde Park with the hope of photographing Great-crested Grebes performing their elaborate courtship. I arrived about half an hour before dawn and was waiting by the side of the water. As the sun came up on the other side of the Serpentine, the water turned a brilliant red colour, and I was very pleased to find this Mandarin Duck sitting on one of the wooden posts by the water to photograph.

  1. Always a lovely little Duck to see, someone at a small pond in New Forest feeds them and lots of small birds on gate posts.Whoever it is gives loads of pleasure to lots of birds and birders.Doubt that person realises how much we all appreciate it.
