‘Hello Mark,

I have just finished reading your absolutely fantastic book Inglorious, I bought the book on Chris Packham’s recommendation. It’s a long time since a book has made me quite so positively angry, I think Gabrielle Palmer’s The Politics of Breastfeeding has been the only other book to make me feel like this.

I had no idea about driven grouse shooting, I live … on the south coast. But I want everyone I know to read your book, I want them to know too. I’ve been giving people lectures when they talk about the recent floods up north. Telling them about the damage to the moorland and the illegal persecution of birds of prey. Telling them about your book.

I love the Peak District and visit every few years and I always wondered what the burned areas of heather were all about. I now know the sad reason. Neither did I realise the reason why I see so few birds of prey.

You have spurred me to write to my MP, something I have never previously done. Well done!

My children are only 4 and 6 years old, I really hope I can take them to the Peaks one day and show them a Hen Harrier, I’d also like to take them to a Hen Harrier day.

Thank you so much for writing this book, it’s information which needs to be heard.’
