You are all winners – 123,077 of us

The campaign to ban driven grouse shooting was voted Birdwatch readers’ Campaign of the Year.

Yes, I’ve noticed that driven grouse shooting is not yet banned, but 2016 saw a very big step in that direction because the public understanding of the issue grew enormously.  Many people who knew little, and cared little, about what people do to our uplands and their wildlife now know there are dark deeds done just for a so-called sport.  The pressure for change has ratchetted up several notches and it will not slacken.

Thank you and happy Christmas to all who helped get our e-petition past the 100,000 signatures and into the parliamentary record.

And that includes Birdwatch itself – thank you to Dominic Mitchell and all the team.

And thank you to Birdwatch readers as well.

  1. Well deserved Mark, what a great year 2016 was for bringing the destructive nature of Driven Grouse Shooting to the attention of people. I hope you have a great Christmas & manage to put your feet up and rest. Best wishes. See you at some point during 2017.
