The other day I was driving around the roads of east Northants and I saw two squashed Hedgehogs.

Yuk!!

But I felt pleased that I’d seen them because it showed that there were still hedgehogs here…

But I felt bad about feeling good…

But I was glad…

But I was sorry too…

  1. Squashed hedgehogs are good for scavenging Red Kites and Buzzards though, are they not?

  2. Yes, I can’t reconcile myself to the thought that it’s good to see dead hogs on the road! Maybe yours were the last 2, but not seeing any more dead ones won’t tell us that, we’ll still think they are in that area!

  3. At 6.30am on 14th June my wife saw a hedgehog running down the drive. We have a large population of Badgers so the Hedgehog is quite rare around here. In fact I have a Hedgehog hanging from my beam around 30 years old having been skinned by a Badger. They are also common food for both Golden and White tailed Eagles having found many in old nests on Mull!

  4. We had a hedgehog in the garden. The fact that I’ve not seen a squashed one on the roads nearby gives me hope for it’s survival.

  5. Don’t drive over dead hedgehogs by the way as the spines can work their way through your tyres and cause punctures! As Michael Caine might say ‘ not many people know that’
