The Well-Read Naturalist (1)

I have to admit that John (Johannes) Riutta’s excellent website, The Well-Read Naturalist, first came to my attention when he wrote a very kind review of my A Message from Martha, but I have been dipping into it regularly ever since.

I like the ethos of the site ‘The Well-read Naturalist publishes reviews and news of books about any and all of the topics classifiable under the general category of natural history, as well as a few other items – field kit for example – that would be expected to be of interest to naturalists. I do it because I’m passionate about these things, because I have the experience and skill to do so, and, quite frankly, because in many cases no one else will.‘ and I like the actual reviews – and from meeting him a few times now at the Bird Fair I like John Riutta too.

So I’ll be promoting content from John’s site that might be of interest to readers of this blog from time to time.

Here are some reviews;

The Warbler Guide by John and, for interest, my take on the same book.

Ecotopia – 40th anniversary epistle edition – this looks a fascinating book and one which has passed me by completely until I saw John’s review.

Through the Lion Gate: a history of the Berlin Zoo.  Again, this book would have passed me by without the guidance of the Well-Read Naturalist.

I’ll be keeping you posted on other reviews by John – I’ll give occasional updates on Sundays.
