I have to admit that John (Johannes) Riutta’s excellent website, The Well-Read Naturalist, first came to my attention when he wrote a very kind review of my A Message from Martha, but I have been dipping into it regularly ever since.
I like the ethos of the site ‘The Well-read Naturalist publishes reviews and news of books about any and all of the topics classifiable under the general category of natural history, as well as a few other items – field kit for example – that would be expected to be of interest to naturalists. I do it because I’m passionate about these things, because I have the experience and skill to do so, and, quite frankly, because in many cases no one else will.‘ and I like the actual reviews – and from meeting him a few times now at the Bird Fair I like John Riutta too.
So I’ll be promoting content from John’s site that might be of interest to readers of this blog from time to time.

Birds of the Pacific Northwest – this is the part of the world where John lives.
Lapwings, Loons and Lousy Jacks – this is a book published in the UK which has passed me by, but I enjoyed John’s review of it.
The Secret Life of Flies – published by the Natural History Museum.
