Yesterday the Purple Emperors were showing well at Fermyn Woods. This one was on the path about 100m from where I parked my car. Simples!
And FC seem to have done some quite sensible ride widening too.

Years ago, in these woods, a purple emperor landed on the axe I was using to chop up rabbits to feed the young red kites in their pens. I think they get nutrients from blood and other dubious things you find along forest tracks.
