This is a follow up to the same author’s Island to Island (reviewed here) but with the subtitle ‘A collection of photographs – the pictures behind the story‘. And it is a book of photographs with some words joining them together from the island of Aride in the Seychelles where the author was a warden of the nature reserve.
The photographs, by a variety of photographers, are good. They cover the people, the scenery and the wildlife of the island. Many are black and white and that works well and somehow enhances the impact of some of the colour images. The birds appear almost perfect for black-and-white with Seychelles Magpie Robin, Sooty Tern, White-tailed Tropicbird, Fairy Tern, Lesser Noddy and Crab Plovers already being predominantly black and white.
The cover? It’s a tropical island! I’d give it 6/10 but I’d give higher marks to the images within.
Island to Island: from Somerset to Seychelles, a collection of photographs – the pictures behind the story by Sally Mills is published by Cranthorpe Millner.
