Today, until midnight, is the last chance to buy the new Bird Atlas of Britain and Ireland at a reduced price. I’m looking forward to my copy and will review it here some time – but you will definitely want your own copy because it will be a fascinating read. Click here to avail yourself of the offer.
And it’s never too late to buy a copy of Fighting for Birds which now has 21 5-star reader reviews on Amazon (eat your heart out George Monbiot!). Click here for other reviews.
And finally, it’s obvious that Lord Howell was greatly misunderstood – he meant grouse moors. Ask any hen harrier (oh! there aren’t any).

Did Howell actually say NE England or just the north-east?
If the latter then the press are demonstrating their usual Anglo-centric approach aren’t they? NE Britain is just as desolate as NE England isn’t it?
Ordered the Atlas after your last reminder Mark, thankyou. already bought and read FFB and resisting , still those who wish to borrow and have suggested they buy a very good and thought provoking read.
Poor Lord Howell, must send him as needle and thread to stitch his mouth upso as to stop him putting his foot in it. his analysis of the north East is as accurate as Us” up North” describing him and his cronies as only interested in money and living in the glorified carpark that is the south east! Oh but then the firts part is true deary me.
