Oscar writes: While I was at Minsmere I spent a lot of time in the Bittern hide trying to photograph Hobbies. They spent a large part of the middle of the day hunting for dragonflies over the reedbeds, and so I was delighted to catch one as it stalled slightly, with the light around its wings caused by the fact that I was photographing into the sun.

kevin – a great photo of a great bird by a great young photographer.
Thanks Kevin!
Dear Oscar,
I’ve been searching high and low for a good Hobby photo – to use firstly with talks I’ve been giving on raptors in connection with the Hawk and Owl Trust – in particular looking at where our raptors are as we enter a new millennium (readers of this blog will be well up on some of the highlights but, sadly, also some of the lowlights !) and also supporting the amazing Avalon marshes. I’d really like to use your photo on the basis of always credited, and if there’s any money in it a cut to you ! Any chance ?
Roderick
