15,000 signatures in 45 days

15,000Our e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting yesterday passed the 15,000 signature barrier (on Day 45). That’s a signature every four and a half minutes, day and night for just over 6 weeks. Pretty good.

Thank you to all who have signed, and also to those who have promoted the e-petition to their bird clubs, RSPB groups, workmates, friends and partners. We need a bit more of that please.

Last year, our similar e-petition took 82 days to reach 15,000 on its way to 22,399 in c10 months.  I would hope that we could pass the 25,000 signature mark by 21 January 2016 at the newly introduced 6-month closing point.

And of course, the WTGC’s e-petition last year to get Defra to publish an un-joint un-plan was a total failure perhaps because it elicited a mere 10,683 signatures after eight months, despite being supported by GWCT, the Moorland Association, BASC, Countryside Alliance, National Gamekeepers’ Organisation etc etc.

There is plenty of life in our e-petition and I have plenty of ideas for its promotion over next four and a half months. We’ve only just started!

Have you signed? If so – ask a friend to sign too – you do have friends don’t you?

Not yet signed? Well, there’s plenty of time – time even to read Inglorious – conflict in the uplands, the book of the campaign to get the full background and details to the issue.

  1. I’m finding that the ‘talk to a friend and work colleague approach’ is working very well. It is amazing how few people have heard about the issues surrounding Driven Grouse Shooting, they are even more amazed that it is still allowed! If everyone who signs the petition can encourage one or two additional people……..

    1. Wear one of the HHD or similar t-shirts, they also start conversations too.

Some of my colleagues loved the story of the Lush bath bombs & satellite tags.

  2. Anything that involves killing is not “sport” and the people who take part in this are kidding themselves that they are “manly” . They are bullies.

  3. If it wasn’t bad enough that Hen Harriers are being persecuted, apparently pigeon fanciers are gearing up to trying to get Peregrine and Sparrowhawk numbers reduced where they race pigeons. This is after a Law Commission review of the Wildlife and Countryside Act, which would apparently facilitate this. A review started by this nasty Tory government, which of course has the backing of the grouse moor owners.

    Read about it here.
