I have been picking blackberries off this hedge for 30 years.
I’ve blogged about it before (Season mists and …blackberries, 6 Sep 2010, Blackberry makes $1bn loss, 24 September 2013). This year the blackberries are numerous but very few of them are ripe, and even they are not very ripe. I’ll be back next weekend if the weather is OK.
And the late-ish blackberry harvest applies to the wheat harvest too. There are few years when there is still unharvested wheat when I am going out to pick blackberries but this year, in east Northants, there are some unharvested fields still. The wheat is noticeably grey and looks a bit past its best. Wheat prices are quite low at the moment – it’s been a good year for production globally.
The blackberry futures market is a bit unpredictable.
But however Blackberry is doing, my Skyroam portable wi-fi was working – I had full wifi right next to this hedge. Luxury!
