” The complainant said that this would be a satisfactory resolution to his complaint. As the complaint was successfully mediated, the Complaints Committee did not make a determination as to whether there had been any breach of the Code. ”
That there was a breach of the Code is indisputable. The prevarication by the newspaper is indefensible. I think it very unsatisfactory that since the complaint has been ‘successfully mediated’, which is a neat avoidance of the fact that the paper has been caught being untruthful and has admitted being so, there is no record of a breach of the Code being entered against it.
