Oscar Dewhurst – Moose

Oscar writes: On our last evening in the Tetons, we spent a couple of hours at a spot where in the previous two days we had seen Elk, Otters, Beavers, Grizzly Bears, Bald Eagles, Kingfishers and Moose. Parking up and getting out we saw that there were a few people standing on the river bank watching something on the other side. Before long we could see that it was a magnificent bull Moose! After I took this image it swam across the river, coming out only a few metres from where some people were stood, before disappearing into the forest. Out of everything we saw in America, these were definitely one of my favourites.

  1. Nice contrast: this bull moose doing some living, versus some seriously tooled up gonadal guys doing some culling (previous pic.).
But never be taken in by the self-assured modesty of a bull moose, (or in our case the European Elk). Be especially ready to make a quick move when one happens push his way up to the saloon bar and shout,
‘Hey, the Highballs are on me!’
