That’s the first 24 hours of this e-petition – and we have whizzed past 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 signatures. Thank you everyone!
Almost every one of the 650 UK parliamentary constituencies has already got at least one signature registered in it – and the Calder Valley has 32. The map above is hours out of date, but it shows the pattern quite well – the people who are most concerned about driven grouse shooting are not just a bunch of townies (not that there is anything morally reprehensible about living in a town): most of the signatures come, as always, from rural constituencies. But everywhere you go, the message is getting across – driven grouse shooting is a damaging and pointless hobby for the rich, and we’d be better off without it.
We are still waiting for the following constituencies to register a signature – who will be the last?
- Foyle SDLP Now has a signature
- West Tyrone Sinn Fein

Hi mark – where do you get the post code data from? is it only available to petition organiser? I might make a little app which shows the data live..
The map with constituencies and number of signatures is on the gov petition website
Giles, the map comes off the petition web-site. It is interactive on the web-site and by hovering the pointer over a constituency the you get the name of the constituency, its MP and the number of signatures from that constituency displayed. If you want additional data you can download a file in json format (whatever that is) from the petition web-site. This gives you a list of all the constituencies with the name of the MP and number of signatures in each all wrapped up in a lot of code. If you are handy with computer code you can doubtless do something with that.
Hope this helps.
Giles – there’s a map, follow the link.
ah damn they’ve already done it – assumed \Mar had been busy with excel or something 😛
Giles – you do assume sometimes
Hi Mark.
Can you let me know if this petition is only to ban driven grouse shooting in England or also in Scotland and the rest of the UK?
I can’t find anything on your site to tell me. Perhaps a small insert in your FAQ’s ?
Good luck with your petition.
Ronnie
Ronnie – since it is aimed at the Westminster parliament it is aimed at the devolved English administration. That’s a start. Maybe, as you heard me say in Battleby, someone should start something similar in Scotland – but the arguments will be almost identical. Race you?
Sorted North Down. Green Assembly member for North Down and NI leader has now signed.
Just two constituencies to go in the north of England; come on Donny North and Barnsley East, get it sorted!
5000 at 18.03 21/03/16
Jim – you were very quick off the mark then! Quicker than me – and I look quite often!
5000 signatures in less than 30 hours – wow!
& the chances of 10k in the next couple of days looks achievable – now that has to be a record? Long may the momentum continue at this rate ….
And now Wales is all in so just 12 constituencies to go for full coverage;
Scotland – 1
N. Ireland – 3
North of England – 2
English Midlands – 1
SE England – 5
Jim – quick again! Dudley has just succumbed.
I think we could call the five south-east England constituencies ‘London’ really – don’t you?
Yep, though I think some residents of Barking and Ilford might still consider themselves as being in Essex (I was, perhaps uncharacteristically, being diplomatic!).
Jim – well done! I’ll try that some time.
Not too many grouse moors in Lincolnshire but I do hope we put in a better performance than last time.
Come on yellow bellies, wake up and sign up!!!!
Perhaps not but Hen Harriers can be seen in North Lincolnshire on Crowle & neighbouring Thorne Moors SSSI so as you suggest Paul, residents keen to see our ‘silver ghosts’ returning each winter should support the epetition and the ongoing campaign to see resolution to the issue which will deliver wildlife protection and see public interest best served.

6,700 @ 12:46 on 22 Mar 2016. Seems to be a new signature every few minutes. You’ll get to 10,000 quite comfortably by the end of the week at this rate…
Up to 6,708 in the time it took to add the last comment!
