Yesterday was, of course, St George’s Day, Shakespeare’s birthday and Shakespeare’s death day too.
So what would be more appropriate than the quote above?
Henry, and a group of close friends, gathered in the Peak District to celebrate the day, the achievement of 30,000 signatures for our e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting, and the fact that Rory Stewart has really blown it as far as winning over any doubters about driven grouse shooting.
A great time was had by all.

Poor Henry looks a bit lonely … Have all the close friends deserted him? Poor Henry!
Distraction feeding?
Nice one.
And Henry says: ‘’ I’ll not budge an inch.’’
From The Taming of the Shrew.: ‘…I’ll answer him by law. I’ll not budge an inch….’
Cry God for Bill and the internet — yet another well worn phrase that I didn’t know the bard had written.
With the candles on the table, it looks as though you’re planning “a little touch of harry-er in the night” – Henry V Act 4 prologue.
Like you, Mark, I’ve been watching the London Marathon. To see 35,000 people in one place made me realise the huge crowd that have signed your petition so far. And you’ve got another five months to go!
Richard – thank you. Yes, we are quite a crowd aren’t we? And we are on the move. And it is a marathon, not a sprint.
Given the contempt for the law prevailing across some shooting estates, this seems pertinent (although in the present case the birds of prey are actually the victims and it’s the gamekeepers who have no fear of the law):
“We must not make a scarecrow of the law,
Setting it up to fear the birds of prey,
And let it keep one shape, till custom make it
Their perch and not their terror.”
Measure for measure.
Jonathan – excellent! Thank you.
