A Waxwing year?

Is it going to be one of those occasional winters when Waxwings delight us with their presence along the east coast of Britain, across much of Scotland and maybe even into some central and western areas?

There have been quite a lot seen, although I haven’t heard of any really massive flocks. But when there are three records in Northants on a single day, as there were yesterday, it suggests that there are quite a lot about. Let’s hope so – they are lovely birds.

Watch this space but also watch @waxwingsuk on Twitter for updates.  And keep an eye on Birdtrack’s maps too – it’s looking quite promising.

  1. God bless ya, guvnor, some feathered cheer was called for on this particular morning!

An assumption I have (that seems more or less accurate); if their in by October it’s going to be biggy (though with no massive flocks in Scotland, as yet, that are itching to filter down the Pennines, perhaps not an epic).

  2. We are based in Kincraig in the Scottish Highlands PH211QD. We have a Waxwing flock come very year, with anthologists and nature photographers come and stay with us at our self catering unit ‘The Old Stable House’ near Aviemore, to come and see the abundance of local wildlife. The waxwings are here just now due to the surprisingly milt winter we are having, what a sight.
