Dear Mr Pursglove
Transparency of Lobbying, Non-party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Act 2014
I am very concerned at the impacts of this piece of legislation on the ability of civil society to participate in the democratic process.
You may have seen that over 50 charities wrote to all party members concerned about the ‘chilling effect’ of this legislation on their ability to carry out their charitable objects (see Guardian piece and my blog ).
This legislation was sponsored jointly by the Cabinet Office and Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. Labour, LibDem and Green parties have called for reform or abolition of this badly-judged and anti-democratic act. I’d expect to see those proposals in their next election manifestos.
I would be grateful if you could:
- seek clarification from the relevant government ministers on whether they will accept and implement the finding of the Hodgson review or even go further with correcting this matter
- let me know your own personal views on the matter, as my MP
- pass on my views to whoever will be writing the next Conservative election manifesto so that they realise this is an issue that needs to be clarified
Yours sincerely
