I’ve got my train ticket already. Will bring my HHDay flag.
As ever I’m frustrated that my personal circumstances prevent me from attending but good luck to all who do so.
DGS being bracketed with fox hunting and badger culling at a major rally – that’s a potentially significant step forward in public awareness. Well done Mark and Chris, Findlay, RPUK…..
Yep we’ll be there.
I am against all these things but can’t help thinking this march is totally the wrong approach. It will appeal the converted and there will also, judging by the speaker line up, come across as a Jeremy Corbyn fan club event ( with the exception of CP, as I have no idea about his politics) with lots of megaphones and shouting.
That kind of approach has zero impact on the government regarding the badger cull, for example, as the govt simply sees it as fringe shouty protest.
The Labour Party is as much pro shooting as the Tories and Lib Dems and I challenge anyone to look back at what has been said in this regard at every Labour conference for decades. Perhaps Mr Williamson could comment on that and say what he is going to do about his party and its pro BASC stance???
Also, if this march is, as seems likely, just an anti Tory rant, then it will only serve to allienate the broader public. In order to keep what we have and build on it the worst thing that can be done is to become like some fringe left outfit.
I think the danger is that such important topics become only associated with the left, when in fact many of us would like a much less politicised approach which also appeals to ‘Mr and Mrs Marks and Spencers’ who do not identify with these kind of marches.
Michael – rallies are often of the converted or near-converted – that’s kind of the point of them really.
You are wrong about the political make up of speakers – watch this or any other spaces for more info.
Maybe Jeremy Corbyn will come himself since you seem to think it is a love in? That would be quite something.
Please feel free to organise your own event to complement this one and others along the lines you suggest – I might even come to it. I have a strong affinity with M&S – especially since they have been persuaded again this year not to sell grouse meat..
