Natural England EIR request – Hen Harrier data

Dear Natural England

In 2008 Natural England published an excellent, interim, report on its Hen Harrier study entitled ‘A future for the Hen Harrier in England?‘.

In that report you state that ‘In three incidents nests had been destroyed by illegal burning‘.  Please tell me:

  1. In which county/ies did these incidents occur?
  2. Were these incidents reported to the police?
  3. If so, what was the outcome of any inquiries made?
  4. If not, why not?
  5. Did these incidents occur on land managed for driven grouse shooting?
  6. What else would you like to tell me about these incidents?

In that report you state ‘…we have come across two more where nests of eggs had been removed‘.

In that report you state ‘We have, for instance, been looking into the disappearance of six Hen Harriers at an autumn roost known to us in the northern uplands. The anecdotal evidence of deliberate persecution given to us in confidence by a local land manager correlates with the information provided by the last known location of a number of birds that were being radio-tracked by project staff.‘.

Please tell me:

  1. In which county did these incidents occur?
  2. Were these incidents reported to the police?
  3. If so, what was the outcome of any inquiries made?
  4. If not, why not?
  5. Did these incidents occur on land managed for driven grouse shooting?
  6. What were the tag ids of the Hen Harriers being tracked by Natural England?
  7. What else would you like to tell me about these incidents?

In that report you state ‘…six birds fitted with satellite transmitters have been tracked from the Bowland Fells into parts of the North Pennines managed principally as driven grouse moors, and have not been recorded subsequently

Please tell me:

  1. In which county did these incidents occur?
  2. Were these incidents reported to the police?
  3. If so, what was the outcome of any inquiries made?
  4. If not, why not?
  5. What were the tag ids of the Hen Harriers being tracked by Natural England?
  6. What else would you like to tell me about these incidents?

If you’d like to protect the Hen Harrier than please look at this website and then sign this e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting which is gathering thousands of signatures every day.

  1. I hope that one day Hen Harrier persecution is in the past.
A result all your efforts on their behalf deserve.
Your work on their behalf is simply incredible.
