Gavin Gamble’s e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting now stands at over 13,000 signatures and it has now had a poor government response (see here and here).
Here are the leading constituencies so far – many of them are old friends (all with 50+ signatures):
- Inverness, Badenoch and Strathspey, Drew Hendry MP, 87 signatures
- Thirsk and Malton, Kevin Hollinrake MP, 71 signatures
- Skipton and Ripon, Julian Smith MP, 70 signatures
- Calder Valley, Craig Whittaker, 70 signatures
- Dumfries and Galloway, Alister Jack MP, 68 signatures
- Ross, Skye and Lochaber, Ian Blackford MP, 67 signatures
- Sheffield Hallam, Jared O’Mara, 67 signatures
- Isle of Wight, Bob Seeley MP, 67 signatures
- Suffolk Coastal, Therese Coffey MP, 60 signatures
- Sheffield Central, Paul Blomfield MP, 60 signatures
- High Peak, Ruth George MP, 60 signatures
- Penrith and The Border, Rory Stewart MP, 59 signatures
- Stroud, David Drew MP, 58 signatures
- Westmorland and Lonsdale, Tim Farron MP, 58 signatures
- Argyll and Bute, Brendan O’Hara MP, 55 signatures
- East Lothian, Martin Whitfield MP, 52 signatures
- Derbyshire Dales, Patrick McCloughlin MP, 51 signatures
- Ceredigion, Ben Lake MP, 51 signatures
Last week I stuck my neck out and predicted a significant leap forward in the number of signatures by now…well, the total has increased by nearly 2000 signatures but that wasn’t achieved through the means that I was expecting, so I’ll assume that we may see another significant leap forward in the next seven days. Fingers crossed.
Whether Barking will ever attract a signature remains to be seen – it and Foyle are the only two UK constituencies without a single signature.

Gavin and I both took a gamble on pressuring the, somewhat idiosyncratic, Support Chris Packham Facebook page. It had a small effect l believe but they have over 20,000 followers so we’ll keep at ’em!
Richard – excellent!
Mmm… I found it rather odd that so few of the 20K signed given that they support Chris and he obviously supports the petition. But like you say keep at em and everyone else we can think of.
You would think that being next door to Rainham where there have been two Hen Harrier Days might attract a bit of support.
Lyn – it is quite interesting – but then, I’m interested in lots of things!
