Thunderclap imminent

This thunderclap is about to send its message to over 3 million social media accounts and spread the message about why intensive grouse moor management should be no more.  It goes out at 3pm.

If you are on Facebook or Twitter you can add your voice and spread the word.

Thunderous supporters include the Guardian journalist George Monbiot, the joint leader of the Green Party Caroline Lucas and the wonderful Chris Packham.

Many thanks to the guys behind the @Ban_DGS Twitter account for setting this up and publicising it so well.

  1. I intended to circulate this to friends and SOC members, but on reading the message was surprised to find it referring only to England. Scotland might ‘enjoy’ a larger population of breeding Hen Harriers than England, but this is mainly due to their breeding range extending beyond grouse moors, especially on islands off the west coast. Persecution on Scottish grouse moors is almost as bad as in England, and some of us believe that the licensing system under discussion in Scotland is unlikely to make much difference. We need ALL grouse shooting to be banned, wherever it takes place. Such radical action is urgently needed, to ensure the future for harriers throughout the UK.
