On Monday 8 July 2019, Parliamentarians and environmental groups gathered to launch a new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Nature, which aims to provide a forum for engaging and inspiring parliamentarians and others with the natural world, the major threats that it faces today, and the positives that come from a healthy natural environment.
The event saw the election of Barry Gardiner MP as Chair of the group, with Caroline Lucas MP, Steve Double MP, Angela Smith MP, Kerry McCarthy MP and Baroness Barbara Young elected as Officers.
The theme of the event was ‘Natural Capital’ and included a series of talks from experts including, Dr Martina Girvan, Arcadis; Dr Adam Dutton, Office for National Statistics; and Graham Morgan, EDP and Chair of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environments Management (CIEEM)’s England Policy Group.
CIEEM will provide the Secretariat for the group and will facilitate the running of a regular meeting and site visit programme, parliamentary work and information distribution.
