Waiting for a debate date

There are only six open petitions on the Westminster parliament website which have overtopped the 100,000 signatures and are therefore eligible for a debate in Westminster Hall. Of those, one is about to become largely irrelevant (and is talked about incessantly anyway), two have been debated, one has had a debate date set and two, including that on Banning Driven Grouse Shooting, are waiting for a date.

A general election could be called almost at any time, and once the campaign starts then all open petitions will close to signatures (and there won’t be any MPs in existence until after the election date, they will all be candidates) so if Boris’s plan for an election date on 12 December comes to pass there will not be a debate on air ambulances on 25 November and any debate on driven grouse shooting will be, almost certainly, in 2020.

I think that may mean that the last day when you can sign this e-petition will be around 6 November which leaves just under two weeks.

Any promotion of this petition will be very welcome but, to be honest, another few thousand signatures won’t make much difference. I’m interested to see whether Calder Valley or Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey is the constituency with the highest number of signatures – both have over 500 already.

Please sign this e-petition calling for driven grouse shooting to be banned.
