I sometimes wonder about the campaign to ban DGS and what the difference would be if AA had not replaced one Martin Gillibrand as the “face” of the Moorland Association around 2012/13. I suspect that we might be nearer the final throw of the dice. Amanda is much better at getting the MA message across than Martin ever was and she is much more media friendly.
However the very fact that she is known, admittedly in jest, as “the smiling face of raptor persecution” means surely that depending on your choice of metaphor ” She is Flogging a dead horse” or “The game is well and truly up.” We know that 2018 was one of the worst years on record for raptor crime in England yet the MA amongst others has yet again professed opposition to all raptor persecution and Amanda is the face of that message. They have said it all before almost ad nauseum and I( we) didn’t believe it then either. There is good reason not to believe it within the MA itself and I’m sure Amanda must know that. I agree with Mark the message is failing Amanda get out whilst you can dignity (nearly) intact.

Strange he claims to be keen on Hen Harriers but wouldn’t allow them to be released back onto his land.
He says ‘you know’ 5 times and ‘errs’ as many times in 30 seconds but funnily enough once he gets onto not accepting ‘colonies’ etc. there are no ‘errs’ and ‘you knows’. I ‘know’ what that says to me.
For fucks sake the BBC man actually says ‘he accepted 5 Hen Harrier chicks onto his land’. No he didn’t, he refrained from killing them. He wasn’t doing us a fucking favour.
When Anderson says that she and the RSPB agree on all wanting ‘more’ Hen Harriers she was being extremely cunning. What she failed to say is that she wants a limit on Hen Harriers. Perhaps the RSPB are still willing to compromise on that issue but it certainly isn’t what ‘the rest of us’ want and Mark Thomas stated that he wanted Hen Harriers to be left alone. Left alone means no limits in my understanding although he did add ‘free of crime’ which is a loophole.
Tom Orde Powlett is actually a reasonable person, although I am officially banned from his moor for being interviewed by Chris Packham and in that interview saying that DGS should be banned. I stand by that view. However Castle Bolton estate which Tom manages DID accept the five brood meddled chicks, something neither the moor they came from nor other moor owners in the north Pennines SPA were prepared to do.

Brilliant by RSPBs Mark Thomas. Really hollow and meaningless words from Amanda. Also well done to the BBC for presenting a decent balanced programme. The presenter seemed to be quite intelligent for a change. What a difference from those pathetic, biased ,unbalanced and very superficial programmes such as Country File and Farming Today.
I think, Mark. thanks to you and others and the flooding because of the trashing of moorland by most land owners for money/profit, we are winning the arguments for banning driven grouse shooting.(No one likes to see people’s homes flooded though). We will win in the end but it may be slow with this awful Government and a paralysed and moribund Natural England.
Amanda Anderson doesn’t deserve anything but contempt. She is stealing a living by peddling clear lies and falsehoods, which only exacerbate the problems our severely degraded environment already faces.
