If your MP is not a minister then they may be prepared to sign this Early Day Motion (#139) which calls for permanent funding for the National Wildlife Crime Unit. You could write to them and ask.
Many Conservative MPs do not sign any EDMs on the grounds that they are a waste of time – many Conservative MPs are a waste of time and space but we still have them.
EDMs are like petitions in parliament – they raise issues and help move things along. Any EDM with lots of signatures has probably done some good.
My MP is a type of very junior minister so I can’t ask him but you may be in a different position.

My MP is a shadow minister so will also not sign the EDM. I believe it is still worth drawing the attention of ministers and shadow ministers to the EDM (perhaps stating acknowledgement of the fact that they can’t sign it) simply in order to maintain their awareness of the issue and its importance to their constituents.
Jonathan – good point!
Yes, agreed. My MP is Margaret Greenwood, a shadow minister, but I ask her to ‘support in some way’ whatever the issue is and she always does, usually writing to the minister responsible and sending me the (usually useless) reply.
Sorry not directly related but I’m intrigued by Lord Birt’s interest in Hen Harriers and his questions in the House of Lords. The most recent on the 12th February
“To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Lord Gardiner of Kimble on 4 June 2019 (HL15826) and following the inception of the Raptor Persecution Priority Group, how that group will measure its success; and how many prosecutions have been mounted for the unlawful killing of hen harriers.”

Jeff – thanks for this
