Back in 2016 I was a member of a Champions of the Flyway team in a rather special bird race in Israel (see here). Birders from all over the world gather in Eilat, Israel and compete in a very friendly way to see the most birds in a 24-hour period. And they raise money for a conservation cause.
This year, the conservation cause is Steppe Eagles but coronavirus has knocked on the head the possibility of the event taking place in the normal way.
But the cause is still there and you could form your own team and do some birding in your back garden to support the flyway cause. Race Day is 31 March. Indeed, in a couple of weeks’ time you may not be travelling much and might as well do some birding from your garden…
But here is one of the intended participants…

No carbon footprint and no visiting politically contentious countries. What a great idea – maybe this should be the way of things from now on?
