The blog that appeared here on 27 December, ‘Brexit deal: ten words that spell environmental damage‘ pointed out that the non-regression (otherwise known as non-backsliding on environmental protection) clause in our cooperation deal with the EU was very carefully worded, apparently to circumscribe the extent of that non-regression.
On the same day (but I think, a bit later – can’t be sure) the IPPR blog makes the same point but in amongst a whole host of other points. And then a couple of days later Greener UK which is an umbrella body comprising some of the UK’s largest environmental organisations said something similar too.
You probably read it here first.
But since then there have been various chats as the paid environment movement strolls back into work about what should be done about this. Watch this space.

Really the first thing the environment movement has to accept, which they have failed to do since 2010, is that they are not on your side. It is not business as usual, a continuation of the co-operative Labour years and we need to stop pretending – the 25 year plan over the horizon while everything is cut to the bone today – that it is.
