Not in the newsblast but this may be of interest to those who haven’t seen it already. Latest study on the prevalence of lead poisoning in golden eagles and bald eagles in the US shows shocking levels and modelling indicates that this in turn is suppressing population growth in these species. The source of the lead is believed to be lead ammunition from hunting. Of course there are differences between North America and the UK but ultimately, if they are exposed to lead, British golden eagles and other species prone to scavenging carcasses such as sea eagles, buzzards, red kites, ravens are as susceptible to poisoning as their N American counterparts and this underlines the importance of getting lead ammunition of all kinds banned as quickly as possible.
