I was chatting to Bill Wiggin MP at the WCL meeting in the House of Commons yesterday when our e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting passed 18,000 signatures. Indeed, I think we were talking, in a friendly way, about how Mr Wiggin’s constituents were flocking to the cause of banning driven grouse shooting. Or maybe…

Thank you, Tom Pursglove
I am grateful to my MP, Tom Pursglove, for a rapid response to my letter and for contacting Liz Truss at Defra on my behalf. I’ll be interested to see what she comes up with. I suspect there will be no reply until Defra has got around to responding to the e-petition on banning driven…
Another 1000 this week – now past 16000 signatures
This is where we were last week – at 15,000 signatures to ban driven grouse shooting. Now we have passed 16,000 signatures. 1000 new signatures in a week is pretty good going. I hope I’m not being unduly optimistic to hope that we will pass 25,000 signatures by the end of the six-month period. There…
Letter to my MP
Dear Mr Pursglove I am a constituent of yours and, although it is extremely unlikely that I will ever vote for you, I would like to wish you well during your period as an MP. Being an MP is a great opportunity and also a great responsibility. I hope that your stay in the House…
15,000 signatures in 45 days
Our e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting yesterday passed the 15,000 signature barrier (on Day 45). That’s a signature every four and a half minutes, day and night for just over 6 weeks. Pretty good. Thank you to all who have signed, and also to those who have promoted the e-petition to their bird clubs,…
And that e-petition…
Our e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting passed the 14,000 signature mark yesterday. 14,000 isn’t 140,000 but it is a lot of signatures. 14,000 signatures was reached in c33 days, less than five weeks. Last year it took eleven weeks to get to the same total. Just more evidence that awareness is growing and spreading…
We’re not really the complaining type, but…
Many of us have had replies from the Independent Press Standards Organsiation along the following lines, after complaining about the Telegraph article, or regurgitated YFTB erroneous press release, of the week before last (see here and here): ‘We have conducted an assessment of your complaint against The Daily Telegraph and have decided that this…
Hen Harrier Day thunderclap
The message went out 5.7 million times just after 10am on Sunday, ‘We’re missing our hen harriers – we want them back!‘ This was too controversial a message to gather the support of Defra (the government department responsible for nature conservation and restoring the status of the Hen Harrier in England), Natural England (the English…

Hen Harrier Day 2015 (2)
Chris Packham was an absolute star on Hen Harrier Eve and at the rally in the Goyt Valley. This is a man who cares passionately about wildlife and is using his public position to promote a better deal for wildlife. He is an inspiring man. I don’t agree with Chris about everything (which means that…
