British Birds review of Blogging for Nature, or, Adrian Pitches is a very nice man.

Adrian Pitches is a very nice man – I’ve always thought that, even when he was sticking a microphone under my nose and asking me questions for the BBC in the north of England.  But now he has given Blogging for Nature a very kind review in British Birds.

Adrian, what a fine man he is, describes my RSPB blog output as ‘prodigious’ and the selection of blogs which appear in Blogging for Nature as ‘thought-provoking’.  Read this book and that very nice man Adrian Pitches says you will be ‘extremely well-informed on all the key conservation debates of our times’.

All a bit over the top, but there is a grain of truth in this hyperbole and for less than £10 from the BB Bookshop or from lulu.com it’s hardly a big risk to buy this book and re-live the events and issues of eagle owls, hen harriers, farmland birds, habitat restoration,  the forestry debate, government spending cuts, waxwing invasions, Songbird Survival, white-tailed eagle reintroductions (or not!), political party conferences, corncrake reintroductions and both the Game Fair and the Bird Fair.  There is no other source of information told by an insider who lived and worked through these and other conservation issues in 2009-2011.

With 10 tips on how to blog, a selection of comments from regular readers of the blog and a Foreword by the ex Environment Secretary The Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP this is a cheap Christmas present for those who are interested in nature conservation – so all you cheapskates out there, buy copies of my book for all your relatives and friends and that’s your Christmas shopping done!

And finally, thank you to the reader of this blog on Twitter, @Brays_Cottage, who has nominated this blog as one of the most powerful Independent Voices of 2011.  I guess this was in the science and environment section rather than the Arts or Sports, but whatever it was I’m not complaining.  Anyone else feeling moved to do the same will, no doubt, get their reward in heaven but because Brays Cottage was the first then their excellent pies get a plug here – Yummmmmmy!

  1. All those credits well deserved Mark.Have always admired your work ethic and have always wondered how you could fit everything in and not only that you always seem to be so knowledgable on so many subjects which must take a lot of time researching.
