I shall be doing RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch with my MP

I’m very glad that my MP, Andy Sawford, has said that he can do the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch with me on the weekend of 25/26 January.

Why not invite your MP too?

Why shouldn’t 660 MPs be part of the 500,000 people taking part – giving wildlife an hour of their year?

Think how many messages you could get across in that hour.

Ask your MP and let me know, please, how you get on.

  1. Happy New Year Mark.
I wrote to my MP (Alistair Burt MP Con) as I indicated I would do from an earlier post of yours.
I mentioned the State of nature report, the decline in farmland birds and the need for radical reform of farming policy and subsidies. I also asked him to raise these points directly with Ministers and also whether he would be most kind to allow me to share both our letters on your blog. His reply was sadly but consistenly lacking any speciifc answers to any of the points Ior specific questions I had raised – he did advise me that the RSPB HQ was within his constituency, like I didn’t already know that!
The only points he makes is that he supports “Biodiversity 2020” (how about starting in 2014 then!), that the Government is providing £7.5 Million to establish 12 Nature Improvement Areas (peanuts) and that he is a keen advocate of Hunting with dogs.
I therefore don’t feel inclined to propose a day’s birdwatching with a man who believes protecting biodiversity sits alongside killing of native wildlife for sport.
