  1. Good to see you highlighting another possible instance of ‘wildlife crime’ Mark. I expect the Devon WCO is on the case and the full force of the law awaits anyone found guilty of perpetrating this potential breach of the law.

  2. There’s only two possible sources in Devon for beavers – the wildlife trust project and on a farm run by a friend of mine. Both are pretty much left to their own devices despite being enclosed, so I suspect it’d be fairly easy for a couple of previous year’s young to slip away.

    1. Should be equally fairly easy then for the NWCU to establish, by DNA analysis, whether that’s where they came from.

      1. Except the NWCU are busy packing up their desks as their funding hasn’t been confirmed beyond the end of March … again …

        1. Well they’ve got 29 days to get cracking in the interim, and I imagine the funding will be rolled over again. No time like the present and all that……

  3. I don’t understand why people keep saying these are the first in England for 500 years, there were some on the Thames just outside Oxford in 2008… that is only 6 years ago…
