Back soon? Not soon enough!

It’s now a month after the general election (remember the general election?), parliament has reassembled, and the Tory government hasn’t yet reopened the e-petition website. Maybe they’ve decided not to bother with them any more?  Or maybe they are just incompetent.

I’m quite keen to launch an e-petition to ban driven grouse shooting (with a twist!).

  1. *BoB with the shared aspiration that they will refresh the HMG epetition website. What odds are the bookies giving for ‘soon’ in terms of days, weeks, months etc.?

Perhaps they fear being swamped with a series of petitions seeking reform of various kinds? Mandate as a legitimate and popular ‘party’ on 25% ish?

    Bring it on ….

PS well done with the stats.

    1. Or assigned FAO ‘spin bowler’ and associated industry to run it / take over?

Maybe they are considering funding GW(C)T or HOT to ‘manage’? 😉

  2. Mark, kudos to you for your efforts with the petition last time. But, given that these can be easily ignored, and with almost all the English Hen Harrier breeding attempts destroyed this spring (by I wonder who..?), isn’t it time for more direct action and pressure starting immediately? I can’t offer any wonderful ideas, but we need to be more full on before it’s too late. The law isn’t helping, petitions are ignored, Hen Harrier Day is great but doesn’t even affect a day’s grouse shooting and then everyone goes home again… Maybe an impromptu moorland birding day around the shooting butts on 12th August before the guns start up might shake things up a bit. All I know is it’s getting very worrying and the criminals are continuing as usual while we’re all being very, very nice and civil about it.

    1. Joe – this e-petition wasn’t ignored and nor will the next. but they don’t get instant results either.

There are a variety of options available, I agree. My strong present preference is to campaign within the law for change. Others may feel differently. Before anyone goes romping across a grouse moor on 12 August they should, I suggest, seek legal advice and could usefully start by reading the blog on this site (also posted yesterday) on access to ‘open access’ land.

I share your frustration about the sad state of affairs.
